Voya Voluntary Benefits

Benefit Period: January 1, 2025 – December 31, 2025

The City of Akron will offer voluntary benefits through Voya, effective January 1, 2025.
Some plan highlights include:

  • Portable – take coverage with you when you leave employment*
  • Benefits paid directly to you as the policyholder
  • Available as a payroll deduction

Short Term Disability

  • Paycheck Insurance – pays you for lost income while unable to work for up to 13 weeks
  • Benefits begin after you’ve been unable to work at least 14 days
  • Covers illness, pregnancy, routine surgeries, off-the-job accidents

Accident Insurance

  • Covers treatment for injuries on and off the job
  • Dependent coverage also available
  • $50 claim check for routine annual exams for each person covered

Critical Illness Insurance

  • Covers Catastrophic Illnesses: Cancer, Heart Attack, Stroke, Organ Failure & many more
  • Benefit amount: Choice of $10,000, $20,000 or $30,000
  • Spouses are eligible for a benefit that is 50% of the employee amount
  • Children are eligible for a benefit that is 50% of the employee amount

Whole Life Insurance

  • Guaranteed-Issue up to $100,000 for employees
  • Builds cash value and pays a benefit to your beneficiary at time of death

*The Voya benefits are portable which allows you to continue your coverage if you leave the City of Akron or the City of Akron changes insurance providers. This converts the group policy to an individual policy without losing coverage.

Please note, porting your policy may lead to changes in premiums. These rates are available upon request.

Effective 12/31/2024, Aflac voluntary benefits will terminate, and employees will have to reenroll in their voluntary benefits via paper enrollment with the new carrier, Voya.
